AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn’s homecoming victory didn’t come easy.
The Tigers clawed their way to a 24-10 win, thanks to a five-turnover outing, including four lost fumbles. Auburn managed to out-gain Mercer 510 yards to 246 yards in the game, so aside from the turnovers, it was a relatively dominant performance for Gus Malzahn & Co.
Still, the Tigers took a one-possession lead deep into the fourth quarterback before running back Kamryn Pettway put the game out of reach with his third touchdown run of the game. Pettway played in his second game of the season and took a bulk of the carries. He rushed the ball 34 times for 128 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Jarrett Stidham quietly had an impressive game, as well. The Auburn starting quarterback turned in his best performance with a 32-for-37 performance for 364 yards, but he did have more interceptions (one) than touchdowns (zero). At one point, Stidham completed 18 consecutive passes, which set a school record that had been in place since 1992.
SEC Country photographer Sarah Lundgren and recruiting writer Benjamin Wolk snapped photos of the finest moments from the Tigers’ win. Check them out below.
The Tigers will now start SEC play. They’ll travel to Missouri (1-2) next weekend for the first time as conference foes.
