AUBURN, Ala. — Jeremy Johnson, Sean White and John Franklin III are still competing for Auburn’s starting quarterback job, but one did not take the field on Saturday.
According to Gus Malzahn, senior Jeremy Johnson was kept out of the rotation in the Tigers’ second scrimmage of fall camp in Jordan-Hare Stadium in order to order to further evaluate White and Franklin. Malzahn said it was “nothing major” and that Johnson is healthy. There is still no timetable for when a decision might be made.
“We’re not ready to name a starter right now, and that’s not a bad thing,” Malzahn said. “It’s just once we make a call we want to be sure. This situational thing will help somewhat, but it’s not like we’re going to come out tomorrow and name a starter.”
School begins for Auburn students on Aug. 16 and while Malzahn said he hopes to know more by that time, there is no guarantee or plan for an announcement.
