Sophomore running back Peyton Barber was a revelation for the Tigers this season and has now joined a historic group of Auburn rushers.
Barber went over 1,000 yards rushing in the third quarter of the Birmingham Bowl against Memphis Wednesday. The feat continues an SEC-record seven consecutive seasons that Auburn has had at least one 1,000-yard rusher:
2015: Peyton Barber
2014: Cameron Artis-Payne — 1,608 yards, 13 touchdowns
2013: Tre Mason — 1,835 yards, 23 touchdowns
2013: Nick Marshall — 1,068 yards, touchdowns
2012: Tre Mason — 1,002 yards, 8 touchdowns
2011: Mike Dyer — 1,242 yards, 10 touchdowns
2010: Cam Newton — 1,473 yards, 20 touchdowns
2010: Mike Dyer — 1,093 yards, 5 touchdowns
2009: Ben Tate — 1,362 yards, 10 touchdowns
Barber quickly emerged as a threat in the backfield after he entered the season with just 10 career carries for 54 yards. The 5-foot-11 back from Alpharetta, Ga. carried the load for Auburn early in the season after injuries to junior Jovon Robinson and sophomore Roc Thomas.
Entering the Birmingham Bowl, Barber led the team with 226 carries and 13 rushing touchdowns.
