AUBURN, Ala. — Everybody loves predictions.
Whether you’re right or you’re wrong, it’s always a fun thing to do leading up to big games. And, boy, does Auburn have a big game on Saturday.
It’s the SEC opener against a 2-0 Texas A&M team with a key Top 25 win already this season. The Tigers vs. Aggies rivalry has been an odd one since A&M arrived in the conference, with the road team taking each of the games since 2012.
I think that trend continues: Texas A&M 31, Auburn 20.
But before my mostly-Auburn readership flips out, remember that Vegas has Auburn as the favorite. And if you ask many potential future Tigers, I have no idea what I’m talking about with my score prediction. And this is why predictions are fun.
Here’s the take from several targets and commits who will be in attendance for Saturday’s game (7 p.m. ET, ESPN) at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
4-star safety target Deangelo Gibbs: “Auburn 21-20. Close game, and the (Tigers) coaches and players will pull it off.”
3-star LB commit Chandler Wooten: “31-27 Auburn. Offensively, we will show up.”
4-star 2018 WR target Dillon Spalding: “Auburn. Their offense is playing great right now, and I don’t think the A&M defense will be able to stop it.”
3-star 2018 DT target Ka’darian Hill: “Auburn is going to win because they have a great defense and defense wins games. Their offense is pretty good with the run game.”
4-star DE/OLB target Markaviest Bryant: “I like A&M.”
3-star CB target Shawn Shamburger: “Auburn on top. Simply because I feel they have a defensive advantage because A&M just isn’t clicking. I’m predicting a pretty close first half, but after half it’s over.”
Unranked (not for long) 2019 WR target Jalyn Phillips: “The way Auburn has been playing lately, I believe they should pull out the win. They have a very solid defense and very good wide receivers. And I love how they give all their quarterbacks chances to show what they do. But yeah, Auburn with the win.”
3-star 2018 CB target Chris Smith: “Auburn 24-21. Both teams have excellent defense, but Auburn is going to pull it out in the end.”
3-star 2018 OLB target Jacquez Jones: “I think Auburn is going to win. It’s going to be a good game, but I think Auburn is going to pull it out just because they’re playing at home, which is always a plus. And also, they have a chip on their shoulders.”
4-star LB commit Tadarian Moultry: “Auburn comes out with the win because of the defense. The defense will play their part. Since the last game, Coach Gus (Malzahn) played (Sean) White and came out with the win, so it should be more trust there for him to play all four quarters if they don’t blow them out. The first game was a test to see which one should be his QB for the season.”
