Report: Auburn RB coach Tim Horton out of running for North Texas job
Auburn running backs coach Tim Horton will not be hired as the next head coach at North Texas, according to Carlos Mendez of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
North Texas has narrowed down its search to replace former coach Dan McCarney, who was fired Oct. 10, to North Carolina assistant Seth Littrell and TCU co-offensive coordinator Doug Meacham, according to the report.
Horton, now in his third season with the Tigers, coached SEC-leading rushers Tre Mason (2013) and Cameron Artis-Payne (2014). He was one of at least seven people who applied for the vacancy, according to a Nov. 21 report from the Denton Record-Chronicle.
“I don’t know anything about Tim and any other jobs,” Auburn offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee told the Montgomery Advertiser. “He’d be an excellent coach as a head coach, but that’s the first I’ve heard of it. As far as I know, he’s very happy here.”
