Auburn will face Memphis in Birmingham Bowl
Auburn’s bowl destination is official.
Auburn will play in the Birmingham Bowl on Dec. 30 against Memphis, the school announced.
Auburn (6-6, 2-5 SEC) lost two of its final three games but became bowl eligible by beating Idaho, 56-34, during that stretch. Memphis (9-3, 5-2 AAC) lost three of its final four games, but it upset Ole Miss 37-24 earlier this season and finished the season with a 63-0 win over SMU.
Both programs are in the midst of changes to their coaching staffs.
Auburn defensive coordinator Will Muschamp is expected to be introduced as the new South Carolina head coach on Monday. Memphis just hired Mike Norvell to replace head coach Justin Fuente, who accepted the same position at Virginia Tech.
Auburn lost to Memphis in both previous meetings in 1975 and 1976.
