Former Auburn football player Landon Rice has been accused of first-degree rape, according to the Ledger-Enquirer’s Michael Niziolek.
An incident report filed with the Auburn Police Department on July 27 accuses Rice of allegedly raping an identified 19-year-old female, according to the report.
The incident allegedly took place on April 12 in the South Donahue Residence Hall in the late hours, per Niziolek. Rice has not been charged or arrested.
The status of the case is “inactive,” according Niziolek, which does not mean the investigation is closed.
“Cases on inactive status are still open investigations, and there are various reasons why a case would be placed on inactive status,” Auburn Police captain Lorenza Dorsey told the Ledger-Enquirer. “I can’t speak to this case specifically, but some examples are: no active leads or suspect to follow up on, case is awaiting further action to be taken by court system, awaiting results of lab examination or analysis, etc.”
The 19-year-old woman filed a protective order against Rice on Sept. 12, according to the report.
After the Tigers’ win over Arkansas State last Saturday, coach Guz Malzahn announced that Rice had left the team for “personal reasons.”
He was ranked as a 4-star recruit and the nation’s No. 8 tight end in the 2016 class, according to 247Sports’ composite rankings.
