Despite a solid start to the season, some Auburn fans aren’t too pleased with coach Gus Malzahn.
The Tigers have gotten off to a 6-2 start. But against the two best teams they’ve played so far, Clemson and LSU, the offense has not looked good, and that has left Auburn fans very frustrated with Malzahn once again.
In the latest SEC Country Coaches Approval Rating, Malzahn did see a bump in his ranking, but it wasn’t a significant one. He sits at 40.8, leaving him ranked No. 11.
Here is what some of the Auburn fans are saying about Malzahn:
In addition to quarterback Jarrett Stidham, the Auburn offense is adjusting to new offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey, who replaced Rhett Lashlee this past offseason. After the Clemson loss, Malzahn was already promising tweaks to the offense. It has been better, but not consistently against top opponents.
Malzahn, who earned a salary of $4.7 million in 2016, is 41-20 overall and 22-15 in the SEC. The Tigers went 8-5 last season, which included an appearance in the Sugar Bowl. The Tigers also played both teams that appeared in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game, losing to Clemson and Alabama.
The Tigers do have a brutal finishing stretch, which includes a game at Texas A&M as well as home games against the No. 1 and No. 3 teams in the country in Alabama and Georgia. The Tigers begin that finishing stretch on Nov. 4 against the Aggies, as the Tigers were on a bye this weekend.
