AUBURN, Ala. — Auburn’s first road trip of the season helped it climb several spots in this week’s SEC Country Power Poll.
Auburn (4-2, 2-1 SEC) steamrolled Mississippi State 38-14, rising three spots to fifth overall among 14 teams in the weekly SEC Country Power Poll.
The poll consists of 17 voters from SEC Country and around the nation.
It was Auburn’s third-straight victory and first road win after opening the season with five games at home in Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Mississippi State has struggled since opening the season with a loss to South Alabama, but defeated UMass 47-35 in Week 5. Just one week after Auburn limited Louisiana-Monroe to 251 total yards of offense, the Tigers allowed just 289 total yards to the Bulldogs.
Through the first half it appeared Auburn was going to post its first shutout of the year, but Mississippi State found its way into the end zone twice in the second half.
Auburn will have a bye week Saturday before taking on Arkansas on Oct. 22 on the Plains.
Auburn has struggled against the Razorbacks in recent years. The Tigers lost 54-46 to Arkansas last year in an exciting three-overtime contest in Fayetteville and also lost 6 of the last 10 matchups.
Following the bye week Auburn will begin the second-half of its schedule which includes three home games and three tough road games (Ole Miss, Georgia and of course, No. 1 Alabama).
Check back next week to see the Week 7 installment of the SEC Country Power Poll.
