Shaun Shivers might be the smallest one of Auburn football’s early signees, but the Florida native can do huge things on the field.
Shivers, a 5-foot-7 all-purpose back from Hollywood, Fla., has been one of the longest-tenured commitments in Auburn’s 2018 class. He signed with the Tigers on Wednesday and will enroll with the program after he graduates from Chaminade-Madonna Prep in May.
Here’s all you need to know about Auburn’s dynamic all-purpose back from the Class of 2018:
4-star RB Shaun Shivers
247Sports composite ranking: No. 8 all-purpose back, No. 63 prospect in Florida, No. 340 overall
Hometown: Hollywood, Fla.
School: Chaminade-Madonna Prep
Weight: 169 pounds
Offers: 23, including Baylor, Georgia, Louisville, LSU, Mississippi State, South Carolina, TCU, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin
Commitment: Oct. 26, 2016
Senior season stats: 2,241 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns, including a 216-yard performance in a state championship win over Oxbridge Academy
Where he fits at Auburn: Shivers doesn’t have the size to be an every-down back in the SEC, but he can’t be overlooked. He has legitimate track-star speed, as he posted a 200-meter time of 20.91 seconds over the summer that would’ve put him in the top 20 at the SEC outdoor track finals this year. He was the definition of a big-play back in high school, and he displayed plenty of strength and toughness for a guy his size. Auburn offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey should have no problem finding ways to get Shivers the ball in space, and he’ll most likely get a look as a return man with all that speed.
