Auburn quarterback Jarrett Stidham lacks much of a national resume after limited playing time earlier in his career.
But Sports Illustrated’s Chris Johnson sees something in the Tigers’ new quarterback, listing him as one of his five Heisman Trophy dark horse candidates.
Stidham appears to have the coach in Auburn’s Gus Malzahn to highlight his talents.
A sophomore from Stephenville, Texas, Stidham looked the part in the Tigers’ A-Day game last month, torching the defense with 16 of 20 passing for 267 yards and five scoring drives in the first half. Two of his completions were for more than 45 yards.
Remember, Stidham was a 5-star recruit when he committed to Art Briles at Baylor. And if he can live up to that hype, he could develop into a Heisman contender in 2017.
