There are probably just a handful of people in this world that have been to both Lubbock, Texas and the country of Iraq. Former Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville just happens to be one of those.
In an interview with the Rick & Bubba Show on Wednesday, Tuberville was asked about his feelings on his time in Lubbock as the head coach of the Texas Tech Red Raiders football program after spending 10 years on the Plains in Auburn.
“You run me off at Auburn and you ship me to Lubbock, Texas,” Tuberville said. “I’m going to tell you what, that’s like going to Siberia. Somebody asked me, ‘What’s Lubbock look like?’ It looked like Iraq.”
While people in west Texas may not like Tuberville’s comments – they already have a beef with him considering how he left the Red Raiders for the Cincinnati job -, the landscapes are similar; arid and desert-like.
Tuberville visited Iraq back in 2008 as part of a goodwill tour along with other college football coaches.
