Auburn will face Jacksonville State today without two of its most impressive defensive players from Week 1.
Tray Matthews (shoulder) and Carl Lawson (hip) are being held out of the matchup with Jacksonville State, according to AL.com‘s Brandon Marcello.
Matthews had an interception on the first snap of Auburn’s win against Louisville last Saturday. Lawson had one sack in the first half before missing the entire second half, while Matthews left the game late in the fourth quarter.
Head coach Gus Malzahn had indicated both were “expected” to play earlier this week, but Lawson was seen on crutches Friday. Both are not dressed out ahead of the game.
Raashed Kennion will start in Lawson’s spot, while Nick Ruffin will step in for Matthews.
