Following a four-game winning streak, Gus Malzahn’s hot seat talk has disappeared.
So have visor sales in the Auburn area.
After sporting a hat instead of his token visor during the Tigers’ 18-13 win over LSU on Sept. 24, the Tigers coach has stuck with the look during Auburn’s wins over Louisiana Monroe, Mississippi State and Arkansas.
As a result, retailers in the Auburn area have struggled to sell visors off their shelves, according to AL.com’s James Crepea.
“It’s taken me forever to get rid of these (visors),” said Maria Traylor, manager at Locker Room by Lids in Opelika, according to Crepea.”I could not tell you how many exactly, but I have sold precious few… it’s gone through the floor.”
Malzahn’s Under Armour hats are now a popular item among Auburn fans, but most retailers in the area don’t have them in stock.
“The hats are more popular (than the visors),” Skip Johnston, manager at J&M Bookstore in Auburn told Crepea. “Everybody wanted the hat Gus is wearing, but you can’t get them.”
Look for Malzahn to be wearing a hat again as Auburn goes for its fifth-straight victory this Saturday against Ole Miss.
The game will kickoff at 7:15 p.m. ET and air on SEC Network.
