The dab was a cultural phenomenon, and now it appears former Auburn quarterback Cam Newton is bringing it back to life.
After using it for the 2015 season, Newton declared the dab retired last offseason. But like all great athletes such as Michael Jordan or Brett Favre, it has to come out of retirement to test the waters at least once. The Panthers quarterback decided that day was Sunday after he scored against the Chiefs.

Newton also reached a career milestone earlier in the game, so perhaps he’s just in a good mood. It looks like he had it all planned out, raising his arms in the air as if to say, ‘Wait, something big is coming.’
The Dab originated from rap groups in Atlanta before Newton started using it, but it soon swept across the country after Newton made it mainstream. Now there are photos and videos all over the Internet of grandmas dabbing, little kids dabbing, even University of Michigan head football coach Jim Harbaugh dabbing.

Newton hasn’t had the season some expected with his Panthers entering Sunday at 3-5, but perhaps bringing the dab back can spark something in his team. After all, using it last season led his team all the way to an appearance in Super Bowl 50.
