WINTER GARDEN, Florida — Woody Barrett is the big man on campus at West Orange High School.
Half a dozen friends and classmates gathered as he leaned against a stadium wall on campus Wednesday while conducting an interview with SEC Country. They laughed, he goofed around and he talked football.
The four-star quarterback, rated the nation’s No. 6 dual-threat player at his position by 247Sports, expects to come to Auburn and compete immediately for the starting job after shattering records in high school (2,018 yards throwing and 1,413 yards rushing last season). He’s also willing to sit out a season if the coaches think he’s not quite ready.
Barrett has an open mind about the upcoming move to the Plains, but he’s also aiming to be Auburn’s starter when the Tigers open the season Sept. 3 against Clemson. Until he’s told otherwise, he’ll compete like he’s a starter.
Barrett put on a show for SEC Country during our visit with the incoming prospect Wednesday. Check out some of the highlights in the video for more.
We’ll have more from our visit with Barrett in the coming days.
