David Pollack Updates College Football Playoff Rankings: Where’s Georgia?

Former Georgia Bulldogs defensive end David Pollack updated his College Football Playoff rankings on Monday night’s episode of the “See Ball Get Ball” podcast, just two days after the Dawgs, now 8-1, took down Mississippi State 41-21 in Starkville.

In the updated AP Top 25, Georgia checked in at No. 5, the same spot it was ranked a week prior. Georgia also ranks No. 5 in the first CFP rankings, with the second round set to be released on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN. It’s unlikely that UGA will see any movement in the Week 12 CFP rankings, as all the teams ahead of it – Ohio State, Indiana, Texas A&M and Alabama – also won, though the Hoosiers almost lost in a thriller to Penn State.

Pollack’s expecting the same as well, placing Georgia at No. 5 in his CFP rankings.

“No drama at five, Georgia continues to be at five. Again, the head-to-head with Bama over Georgia, Georgia over Ole Miss,” he said.

Georgia turned it on last week, dominating Mississippi State and clicking on all cylinders. Quarterback Gunner Stockton has emerged as one of the best in college football (and most underrated if you ask me) and just tossed three touchdowns with zero turnovers. Meanwhile, running back Nate Frazier rushed for 181 yards on just 12 carries.

The Dawgs have another tough one this weekend – against No. 11 Texas at home in Athens. It’ll be the third big-time game in Athens this season, following games against Alabama and Ole Miss. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET on ABC.

Pollack also flipped his top two teams, moving Ohio State to No. 1 and dropping the Hoosiers to No. 2. The most recent example of a common opponent would be Penn State for those two programs. In Week 10, OSU beat PSU 38-14 and then last weekend, IU escaped with a 27-24 win. That was enough for Pollack.

Here’s his full top 12 CFP rankings, which include Georgia Tech, UGA’s opponent in the regular season finale.

  1. Ohio State Buckeyes (9-0)
  2. Indiana Hoosiers (10-0)
  3. Texas A&M Aggies (9-0)
  4. Alabama Crimson Tide (8-1)
  5. Georgia Bulldogs (8-1)
  6. Ole Miss Rebels (8-1)
  7. Texas Tech Red Raiders (9-1)
  8. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (7-2)
  9. Oregon Ducks (8-1)
  10. Texas Longhorns (7-2)
  11. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (8-1)
  12. North Texas Mean Green (8-1)
