The Georgia Bulldogs are a program where five-star talent is the norm and expectations rarely dip below championship level. Therefore, identifying the most important isn’t easy.
Georgia returns playmakers on both sides of the ball in 2026. It returns players like Gunner Stockton, KJ Bolden, Ellis Robinson IV and Lawson Luckie. But when ESPN evaluated the Bulldogs’ roster heading into the new season, one name stood above the rest: Running back Nate Frazier.
The rising junior running back was recently named Georgia’s most important returning player for 2026, a recognition rooted in both production and presence. In an offense built on balance and physicality, Frazier proved last fall that he isn’t just part of the system — he’s central to it.
“This one was a close call for the Bulldogs during the January portal window, but Kirby Smart and his staff were successful in their efforts to convince Frazier to re-sign and return for 2026,” ESPN’s Max Olsen wrote of Frazier. “The former top-100 recruit would have been one of the most coveted backs in the portal after putting up 947 rushing yards, 116 receiving yards and seven total TDs as a sophomore. Frazier ranked sixth among SEC backs in yards from scrimmage in his first year as a starter, earned third-team All-SEC honors and should be among the best in the conference at his position again as a junior.”
A breakout year in 2025
Frazier appeared in 13 games last season, making nine starts and earning All-SEC third team honors. He rushed for 947 yards and six touchdowns on 173 carries, adding 16 receptions for 116 yards and another score.
By the end of the regular season, he ranked seventh among SEC backs in rushing yards.
He steadily built momentum as the year progressed, showing resilience and the ability to shoulder a heavier workload as conference play intensified.
Built for big moments
The sophomore’s defining performance came on the road against Mississippi State, where he erupted for a career-high 181 rushing yards and a touchdown, controlling the game from start to finish.
He surpassed the 100-yard mark again against Georgia Tech, finishing with 108 rushing yards in a rivalry win. In the SEC championship victory over Alabama, Frazier added 52 rushing yards and a touchdown, delivering when the stakes were highest.
He handled physical SEC battles all season long — rushing for 73 yards in an overtime win at Tennessee, 72 against Texas and then 15 carries for 86 yards in the College Football Playoff game against Ole Miss.
If any of these games have proven anything, Frazier is built for the big moments and can deliver when he is needed.
Frazier is the key to the 2026 season
Proven production in the SEC carries weight; Frazier has shown he can handle volume, grind between the tackles and deliver in hostile environments.
In a season where Georgia will once again chase an SEC championship and College Football Playoff berth, that reliability will matter.
The Bulldogs have talent. They have depth at every position. They have experience returning at key positions.
But as ESPN pointed out, their most important player heading into 2026 is the one who sets the tone every time he touches the ball.
And that’s Nate Frazier.
