Spring game schedule for Florida commits, targets
After four weeks of practices, teams throughout the state of Florida will wrap up spring football this week with games and jamborees.
The Gators have several commits and targets set to compete over the new few days, and Florida assistant coaches will be on hand to catch the action.
IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., features multiple Florida targets: 5-star running back Trey Sanders, 4-star running back Noah Cain and 4-star guards Deyavie Hammond, Dontae Lucas (Florida State commit) and Evan Neal. The Ascenders have an inner-squad scrimmage Thursday.
Taking the field Wednesday night will be former Gators wide receiver commit John Dunmore and his teammate at Chaminade-Madonna Prep (Hollywood), 4-star defensive end Khris Bogle. Both visited Gainesville in the spring.
Florida’s No. 1 tight end target, Lakeland’s Keon Zipperer, plays on Wednesday night at Venice High School. Gators tight ends coach Larry Scott will be there to watch Zipperer.
Top-100 offensive lineman William Putnam (Plant High School/Tampa), who has indicated that he plans to visit Florida on Saturday for the inaugural Gator Grill Out, travels to in-city foe Jefferson High School on Thursday. Florida offensive line commit Ethan White (Superior Collegiate Academy/Tampa) also plays Thursday and will be at the BBQ this weekend.
Florida WR commit Dionte Marks (DeLand High School) and 4-star RB/WR target Mark-Antony Richards (Wellington High School/West Palm Beach) will be in action on Friday along with 4-star defensive ends Derick Hunter (Dunbar High School/Fort Myers) and Lloyd Summerall (Auburndale). Marks and Summerall are also scheduled to attend the Gator Grill Out.
Florida safety commit Trent Whittemore (Buchholz/Gainesville) is also playing Friday as well as 4-star defensive back targets Kaiir Elam (The Benjamin School/North Palm Beach), Brendan Gant (Lakeland/Kathleen) and Cortez Andrews (Godby/Tallahassee).
4-star cornerback DJ Turner II sets commitment date
One of Florida’s cornerback targets in the 2019 class is nearing his decision.
DJ Turner II, a 3-star recruit from Suwanee, Ga., announced Tuesday night that he will make his commitment on June 25. Florida is one of his top 11 schools, joining Alabama, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Stanford.
Turner is scheduled to officially visit the Gators this weekend, which will be his third trip to Gainesville this year. He attended junior day Feb. 24 and the Orange & Blue Game on April 14.
Turner also took unofficial visits last month to Notre Dame and Michigan. The Wolverines are considered the team to beat in his recruitment. The 5-foot-11, 170-pound Turner is ranked as the nation’s No. 39 cornerback prospect in the 247Sports composite.
