Another top Gators player out at Florida
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Quarterback Will Grier is not the only top Gators player out at Florida.
Redshirt junior defensive end Alex McCalister has been dismissed from the team for an unspecified violation, SEC Country confirmed Saturday. The Gainesville Sun first reported the news.
Sources told SEC Country that McCalister plans to enter the NFL Draft. Early Saturday, news broke of Grier transferring from Florida.
McCalister injured his foot in the Nov. 14 game against South Carolina and has not played for the Gators since. UF coach Jim McElwain said Tuesday that McCalister would not play in the Citrus Bowl on Jan. 1.
“He’ll be done,” McElwain said. “He hasn’t been here, so that will be it.”
McCalister was suspended for the season opener due to a violation of University Athletic Association policy.
Despite missing four games this year, he tied for a team-leading 6.5 sacks and registered 26 tackles, including 9.5 for a loss. He also had seven quarterback hurries.
