Florida baseball will have plenty of memories to look back on during its run to the program’s first national championship. However, the Gators wanted to put one of those moments to bed.
Early Wednesday morning, just a few hours after Florida’s title-clinching 6-1 victory over LSU, the school took a jab at Stetson baseball on Twitter. The Gators tagged the Hatters’ official account to show them highlights of the win while saying “ICYMI” (in case you missed it).
Back on April 4, Florida and Stetson had their second meeting of the season effectively erased from the record books after rain intervened with Stetson holding a 10-1 lead in the 5th inning.
The Hatters weren’t happy as they said the Gators “refused to come out and finish the game.” They also called out Florida for dragging its feet when it came to the tarps.
Here’s what Stetson said on its official website after the game:
“The players were cleared from the field, but the Florida grounds crew did not immediately roll the tarp out. It was not until rain started falling heavily that the crew started to move toward the tarp.”
Stetson also said Florida “balked” at two open dates — May 10 and May 16 — because they were too close to the SEC Tournament.
The headline of that story on the Hatters’ site read: “Gators Call “No Mas”, Refuse to Answer Bell after Rain Delay.”
In the other meeting between the teams in March, Florida won at Stetson, coming away with a 9-8 victory in 11 innings.
