It has long been suggested that Becky Hammon could become the first female head coach in the NBA. But before she can accomplish that, she may end up being the next Florida women’s basketball head coach.
Hammon, who is a WNBA legend and currently a San Antonio Spurs assisstant coach, is mulling over a ‘lucrative’ offer from Florida according to Adrian Wojnarowski of The Vertical. Per Wojnarowski, the offer would be a considerable raise from what she makes now but Hammon is grappling with decision due to her desire to be a head coach in the NBA.
Hammon retired from the WNBA and joined the San Antonio Spurs staff back in 2014. Florida went 15-16 this season including a 5-11 mark in conference this year.
Hammon has never been a head coach before and her only coaching experince has come with the Spurs. She played at Colorado State before enjoying a 15-year career in the WNBA.
