A strange plaque supposedly featuring former United States women’s soccer star Brandi Chastain‘s likeness delighted the Internet on Tuesday. Of course, we found an SEC tie to this important story: some Twitter users see former Florida coach Jim McElwain’s face where Chastain’s should be.
The plaque, which was part of Chastain’s induction into the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame on Monday, led to all kinds of fun responses. Obviously, almost no one agrees that the plaque is an accurate depiction of Chastain, who was a two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup champion and a two-time Olympic gold medalist.

But some college football-savvy Twitter users were reminded of McElwain, who coached Florida from 2015-17, when looking at the plaque. Check out a sampling of the amazing reactions.

How does an artist trying to portray Brandi Chastain end up with a decent Jim McElwain instead? https://t.co/chtgK7nRXx

McElwain parted ways with Florida in October after going 22-12 with the Gators. In February, Michigan hired him as its wide receivers coach. Gators fans are eager to move past memories of Florida’s anemic offense under him as the program begins a new era under Dan Mullen.
You have to admit that it’s easy to see McElwain’s face in that bizarre plaque.
Accident? Coincidence? You decide.
