There’s been some huge news out of Florida, as ESPN reports that the school is looking into whether it can fire coach Jim McElwain. And according to that same report, it knows who would replace McElwain on an interim basis.
Per the report from Edward Aschoff and Mark Schlabach, defensive coordinator Randy Shannon would take over the interim role. He is currently the defensive coordinator for the Gators and was promoted to that title this past offseason.
Shannon does have experience as a coach. Shannon was the coach of the Miami Hurricanes from 2007-10.
The Gators were blown out by the rival Georgia Bulldogs 42-7 on Saturday in Jacksonville, Fla. The loss drops the Gators to 3-4 on the season, and 3-3 in SEC play, with four games left. That slate begins with a game at Missouri next Saturday, followed by another road game at South Carolina before finishing up with home games against UAB and Florida State.
