There’s a ton of smoke about Florida coach Jim McElwain potentially losing his job as Florida’s coach.
And according to Darren Heitner, who first had the news earlier in the day about Florida and McElwain possibly discussing a buyout, is reporting that Memphis coach Mike Norvell is the lead candidate to replace McElwain. Heitner’s earlier report was shot down by Florida AD Scott Stricklin with an official statement.
Many rumors about who next UF coach will be but I’m told it’s pretty clear Mike Norvell is lead candidate

Norvell is in his second year at Memphis after taking over for Justin Fuente, who took the Virginia Tech job. Memphis is 7-1 on the season, after a blowout win over Tulane on Friday. Norvell’s lone loss on the season was to UCF, which is led by Scott Frost. Frost already has been heavily linked to the Nebraska job.
According to an ESPN report, Randy Shannon would take over for Jim McElwain as interim coach.
