If we’re comparing recently departed Gators DC Geoff Collins to Alabama OC Lane Kiffin, he did a much better job of positioning himself for a head coaching contract.
According to a report from the Philadelphia Inquirer, Collins’ will be paid $2 million annually on a five-year contract to replace Matt Rhule as the new head coach at Temple. Collins was introduced to the Philadelphia media on Wednesday, and he appears to have won them over with some Southern humor and charm.
In comparison to Kiffin, who reportedly will make $950,000 annually at FAU with a heavy buyout attached, Collins made out like a bandit. Of course Collins, who is a first-time head coach after guiding the Gators defense to back-to-back stellar performances during his two years in Gainesville.
Collins joined the Florida coaching staff in 2015 alongside Gators second-year coach Jim McElwain. His previous stop was as defensive coordinator at Mississippi State under former Gators offensive coordinator Dan Mullen.
Under Collins’ direction, the Florida defense shined. In 2016, the Gators rank No. 6 in the FBS in total yards allowed (298.3), and ranked 8th nationally in 2015 with 310.2.
