Dameon Pierce liking Florida
Recruiting is a marathon, not a sprint.
The Gators once looked like a long shot for Dameon Piece, but they’ve recently made up ground on the 4-star running back from Bainbridge, Ga.
Pierce visited Florida last month for Friday Night Lights, then returned to Gainesville the following Thursday to check out UF again.
Two trips in one week? That shot isn’t so long now.
“I’m definitely interested in Florida,” Pierce told SEC Country. “They’re in my top 5. All those schools have an opportunity, including Florida. They need players at the running back position and they have a great coach in Ja’Juan Seider.”
Seider serves as the primary recruiter for Pierce, a former Alabama commit who appeared to be Georgia bound after reopening his recruitment on May 18. However, the in-state Bulldogs have since landed 5-star RB Zamir White and opened the door for UF and other schools.
Auburn and Florida State round out his top 5. Pierce has now visited Florida four times and said his latest trips allowed him to bond more with Seider and the staff.
“Good experience overall,” Pierce said. “Spent time with a lot of good coaches. Coach Seider thinks I can be the guy and he’s making me a priority. Florida has a great atmosphere and you could see that at Friday Night Lights. Can’t ask for more.”
The 5-foot-11, 205-pound Pierce is ranked the nation’s No. 9 running back and No. 186 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite. He plans to return to Gainesville this fall, but said the Gators have nothing left to show him.
“Not at all,” Pierce said. “With me now, it’s just a personal thing. I’m just going out, exploring my options and getting acquainted with everybody. My decision could happen whenever.”
