The Lions signed Caldwell to a one-year deal in May. The team placed him on injured reserve after he broke a bone in his hand earlier this month.
Caldwell played the last four seasons with the Denver Broncos. He caught 10 passes for 72 yards and two touchdowns in 2015. He has been in the league since being drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the third round in 2008.
