ESPN’s Trevor Matich says Florida is ranked too low in Coaches poll
The first Coaches poll came out Thursday and six SEC teams were ranked in the Top 25. But one prominent ESPN voice thinks one of those teams should be higher.
Appearing on SportsCenter, Trevor Matich said the Florida Gators should be higher than their No. 16 ranking.
“The defensive line will still be filthy. they’ve got some inexperience behind them but they’ve got a lot of guys who can get behind the line and pressure the passer,” Matich said.
“Offensively I think the quarterback position will be a lot better whoever starts. If quarterback improves from heinous to decent this year, it’ll look like a completely different team.”
The Gators bring back a number of key contributors on the defensive line such as CeCe Jefferson and Jabari Zuniga. The Gators do have to replace a number of stars, including Teez Tabor, Jarrad Davis and Quincy Wilson.
At the quarterback position, Notre Dame transfer Malik Zaire is battling Felipe Franks and Luke Del Rio for the starting job.
Among the SEC teams, Alabama came in at No. 1, LSU at No. 12, Auburn at No. 13 and Georgia No. 15. Tennessee was the final ranked SEC team, at No. 24.
Florida opens the season against Michigan, which is ranked No. 9 in the Coaches Poll. The two teams meet in Dallas on Sept. 2
