GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Torrian Gray to Florida is official.
UF announced its new defensive backs coach Thursday, confirming Wednesday’s report of the hiring.
“We’re excited to have Torrian join the Gator family,” Florida coach Jim McElwain said.
According to a UF press release, Gray’s secondaries at Virginia Tech allowed the nation’s second-lowest passing yards per game (185.0) and opponent passer rating (106.5) during his 10 years at the school. The Hokies have also allowed the lowest completion percentage (50.4) nationally over the past decade.
Gray, 41, is a Florida native and should bolster UF’s in-state recruiting efforts, making this a home-run hire for the Gators.
