After holding an open kicking competition, which 216 students showed up for, the Gators have found the lucky guy.
The team announced Friday that dental student Neil MacInnes will be the starting kicker Austin Hardin’s backup this weekend.
“It’s pretty much a dream come true,’’ MacInnes said in a press release. “I wanted to kick in high school and obviously being part of this organization, and Gator Nation, is kind of cool.”
The last time MacInnes kicked in a game was back in 2011 at Chamberlain High School. Fast forward four years and he may be kicking in one of college football’s best rivalry games this weekend.
This news comes after former Florida kicker Dallas Stubbs came out and said he had won the job. As it turns out, that wasn’t true.
