While Florida coach Jim McElwain spent Monday visiting with three Gators commits, his assistants went after several top UF targets.
Secondary coach Kirk Callahan traveled to Coconut Creek (Fla.) to see a pair of U.S. Army All-American teammates, cornerback Trayvon Mullen and wide receiver Binjimen Victor.
Florida isn’t in the running for Mullen, but back in June, Victor planned to pledge to the Gators before delaying his decision. Ohio State and now Miami have become threats to the Gators, who’ve yet to host Victor in Gainesville this fall.
Offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier was in Fort Lauderdale for three St. Thomas Aquinas standouts — Miami wide receiver commit Sam Bruce, 2017 UF quarterback commit Jake Allen and 2017 wide receiver Trevon Grimes. Their team is playing in the Class 7A state championship game Friday, which will be covered by SEC Country.
Defensive coordinator Geoff Collins hit up the Peach State to see 4-star offensive tackle E.J. Price from Lawrenceville (Ga.) Archer, the same high school as Florida offensive guard Antonio Riles. The Gators are hoping to land one of Price’s official visits and will have to beat out Auburn, Oklahoma or LSU.
Running backs coach Tim Skipper, UF’s area recruiter for the state of Louisiana, made visits to cornerback Kristian Fulton of Metairie (La.) Rummel Kristian and LSU tight end commit Jamal Pettigrew from New Orleans (La.) St. Augustine. Pettigrew looks like a tough flip for Florida, but Fulton came to the UF-FSU game and will return for an official visit in January.
Linebackers coach Randy Shannon had an in-home visit with Gators linebacker commit Vosean Joseph of Miami (Fla.) Norland and met with tight end Artayvious Lynn one day after making his commitment to TCU. Lynn, who attends Milford Academy prep school in New Berlin (N.Y.), received an offer from UF and will officially visit this weekend.
Defensive line coach Chris Rumph spent Wednesday in Tampa visiting five 2017 prospects— defensive end Zachary Carter (Hillsborough), athlete Juwan Burgess (Plant), wide receiver Daquon Green (Tampa Bay Tech), offensive lineman Jean Marcellus (Jefferson) and defensive end Jabreel Stephens (Jefferson). Green is committed to the Gators, and Carter currently lists them as his leader.
