The Florida baseball team is building momentum with three wins over ranked teams in its past four games, but the Gators have minimal margin for error at this point.
They come into their weekend series at Missouri with a 17-9 overall record and 2-4 mark in SEC play, putting them fifth in the east division.
The No. 9 Gators can’t waste any time making up ground in the conference race, starting with their visit to the Columbia, Mo., to face the Tigers (21-4, 4-2) in a three-game series starting Friday.
Missouri has a nice record, but the Tigers aren’t getting much love in the national rankings. D1Baseball.com and Baseball America both have them unranked after losses in three of their past four games, while the USA Today Coaches poll has them at No. 23.
Florida, meanwhile, took two out of three games against No. 6 LSU last weekend and then posted a 4-1 win over No. 12 Florida State on Tuesday.
The offense has been slow to come around, but it’s showing some signs of life while the Gators’ pitching remains among the best in the country.
