Florida basketball had a solid season, coming up just short of an unlikely Sweet 16 run. Much of that success was thanks to grad transfer forward Egor Koulechov.
Koulechov, who came to Gainesville by way of Rice, wrote a very class goodbye note to Florida fans just a day after the Gators fell to Texas Tech in the second round.

“An amazing year has come to an end,” Koulechov wrote. “As tough as it is to end this season and the way we did, I’m proud of what we were able to do even if it didn’t end how we wanted it to. I want to thank the amazing people at the university of Florida for giving me this opportunity to come here and play for one of the top programs in the country.
“To the fans, thank you for your year-long support through the ups and downs, and for the love and kindness you showed towards me.”
Koulechov had a very productive year for the Gators. He averaged 13.8 points per game and made 39.8 percent of his 3-point attempts. He likely has a professional career waiting for him in Europe.
“I could have turned pro after last year, and go play overseas, but no money in the world could give me the experience that I got here in Gainesville,” he wrote. “From the bottom of my heart, thank you Gator nation.”
