GAINESVILLE, Fla. —After a lackluster season opener in which Florida may have produced more questions than answers in its 24-7 win over Massachusetts, the Gators fell out of the national rankings.
Slotted No. 25 in the preseason Associated Press poll, the Gators dropped out of the latest rankings released Tuesday despite all the upsets around college football in week one. The Gators were ranked No. 25 in the coaches poll.
Florida coach Jim McElwain was plenty critical of his team after it led just 10-7 against UMass through three quarters before putting the game away in the fourth.
The offensive line was lackluster and the defense racked up some costly penalties, but the Gators will get a chance to make a stronger impression Saturday as they open SEC play at home against Kentucky.
