With the dead period now in effect, SEC Country is counting down the top 10 recruiting targets for Florida in the Class of 2017.
No. 9 is Tyrone Truesdell, a 3-star defensive tackle from Augusta, Ga.
Recruiting importance of Tyrone Truesdell
Defensive tackle is one of the top needs for Florida in this year’s recruiting cycle. UF is expected to lose redshirt junior Caleb Brantley, a projected first-round pick, as well as senior starter Joey Ivie. Four players return at the position next season, but only two (Taven Bryan and Khairi Clark) have seen significant action on the field. Florida once had three DT commitments for 2017, but all of them left the class for various reasons. The Gators landed prep school prospect Kyree Campbell last weekend, but they need more pledges.
Biggest competition for Tyrone Truesdell
Ole Miss and Louisville. Those are the schools he mentioned most during his recruitment, in addition to Florida. Truesdell is scheduled to visit Louisville (Jan. 13), Florida (Jan. 20) and Ole Miss (Jan. 27) before making his decision on National Signing Day. The 6-foot-3, 325-pound prospect also visited Auburn and South Carolina during the fall and has offers from both of those programs.
Signing day projection for Tyrone Truesdell
Even though UF doesn’t get his final visit, Florida should feel confident about adding Truesdell to the class on Feb. 1. He named the Gators his leader after attending the Kentucky game on Sept. 10, and they’ve maintained that edge for the past three months. As of mid-December, Florida was still the favorite for him. Louisville and Ole Miss could give the Gators some competition next month, but SEC Country has Truesdell projected to UF.
