Florida has found its next women’s basketball coach.
The Gators plan to hire Cameron Newbauer, formerly of Belmont. San Antonio Spurs assistant Becky Hammon turned down the job Monday.

This will be a return trip to the SEC for Newbauer, who spent 2005-07 as an assistant on Georgia’s men’s team, and 2008-11 as an assistant with the Bulldogs’ women’s program. Since 2013, he has been the head coach at Belmont, where he compiled a 79-49 record and won each of the last two Ohio Valley Conference regular season and tournament titles.
Newbauer will be replacing Amanda Butler, who was fired earlier this month.
