Florida linebacker will not return to Gators in 2016
GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Jeremi Powell is hanging up his cleats.
The Florida linebacker left the Gators football team after the SEC Championship and will not return in 2016, sources told SEC Country.
Powell, a redshirt junior who graduates this spring, plans to move on to life after football, according to Gator Country, which first reported the news.
Powell finishes his UF career with 21 tackles in 24 games played as mostly a reserve and special teams player. His departure leaves the Gators with six linebackers for the spring — Alex Anzalone, Jarrad Davis, Matt Rolin, Daniel McMillian, redshirt freshman Rayshad Jackson and early enrollee David Reese.
Florida has two more linebackers commits for 2016 in Jeremiah Moon, a 4-star recruit, and Vosean Joseph.
