Several schools came calling for top-tier defensive recruit Shavar Manuel, but Florida won out in the end.
Manuel, a 4-star defensive tackle out of IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.), announced his commitment to the Gators on Tuesday, picking them over fellow finalists Florida State and LSU.
It was only a couple of months ago Manuel told SEC Country that LSU was his clear-cut leader following an official visit to Baton Rouge, La., on Oct. 17. Florida then hosted the 6-foot-4, 290-pounder on an unofficial visit Nov. 28, having already done so on two other occasions in September and July, and whatever impression the program left must have stuck.
Manuel is rated the No. 42 overall prospect in the Class of 2016 and the ninth-best in the Sunshine State.
