Welcome to Chomp Chat, SEC Country’s daily Florida podcast with reporter Zach Abolverdi and Gators broadcaster Jeff Cardozo.
It was a busy weekend on campus for the Florida football and baseball programs.
First-year football coach Dan Mullen and his staff hosted five official visitors and started their summer camps, while the Gators baseball team won their first two games of the Gainesville Regional.
In the latest edition of Chomp Chat, we discuss the recruits who came to town, Florida’s performances against Columbia and Jacksonville and the postponed game Sunday.
Here are the topics on the show Monday:
- The Gators welcomed a handful of out-of-state recruits to campus: top-50 overall cornerbacks Chris Steele (Bellflower, Calif.) and Derek Stingley Jr. (Baton Rouge, La.), 4-star defensive tackle Jaelin Humphries (Lawrenceville, Ga.), 3-star guard Riley Simonds (Buford, Ga.) and JUCO tight end Lucas Krull (Hillsboro, Mo.).
- The Florida baseball team topped Columbia 13-5 to open regional play Friday. The Gators then avenged a regular-season loss to Jacksonville with a 3-2 win over the Dolphins on Saturday. Cardozo discusses those victories with Florida coach Kevin O’Sullivan.
- The Gators will face Florida Atlantic on Monday at 1 p.m. ET after their matchup Sunday was postponed because of lightning delays in the FAU-Jacksonville game.
