Welcome to Chomp Chat, SEC Country’s daily Florida podcast with reporter Zach Abolverdi and Gators broadcaster Jeff Cardozo.
Florida scored a big recruiting win Tuesday, landing a commitment from top-200 overall prospect Jaelin Humphries.
The 4-star defensive tackle from Mountain View High School (Lawrenceville, Ga.) made a surprise pledge to the Gators, given the timing of his decision. He had official visits scheduled this month to LSU and Tennessee, with a decision planned for the fall on senior night.
However, the Florida coaching staff won him over on his trip last weekend and throughout the process, so Humphries decided to shut down his recruitment earlier than expected.
In the latest edition of Chomp Chat, Jeff Sentell of DawgNation joins the show to provide insight on how the Gators landed Humphries and what they’re getting in the 6-foot-3, 303-pound lineman.
Here are the topics on the show Thursday:
- Sentell shares his thoughts on the way Humphries’ process played out and how Florida was able to separate itself from his other SEC suitors.
- Sentell discusses his meeting with Humphries last week for a feature story at his high school, where he learned some unique nuggets about his current and future career plans.
- Humphries has the ability to line up at defensive tackle, nose tackle or defensive end in college, but Sentell reveals the versatile lineman also has the potential to play offensive guard.
