Florida has pieces in place for offensive improvement

Welcome to Chomp Chat, SEC Country’s daily Florida podcast with reporter Zach Abolverdi and Gators broadcaster Jeff Cardozo.

The offensive side of the ball will be a work in progress under new Florida coach Dan Mullen, but improvement is expected in Year 1.

The Gators ranked No. 110 in total offense last season, but the unit was decimated by injuries and the loss of suspended starters Antonio Callaway and Jordan Scarlett. With Scarlett back, a pair of wide receiver transfers and Mullen calling plays, Florida has the pieces in place to produce this fall.

In the latest edition of Chomp Chat, we discuss Florida’s offensive prospects for the 2018 season with Gators beat writer Ryan Young of SEC Country.

Here are the topics on Friday’s show:

  • Young breaks down how the Gators have stockpiled offensive playmakers and should have more success if they can get consistent play from their quarterbacks and offensive line.
  • Young recently caught up with Gators 2018 signee Randy Russell, who was diagnosed with a career-ending heart condition in January and is now pre-med at Florida.
  • Some final thoughts on the former Gators going through the NFL Draft this week. Young also gives his take on the recent losses for the Florida baseball team and their big series this weekend against Auburn.
