GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Class of 2019 offensive lineman Dontae Lucas has one simple criterium for committing to a college football team.
“Basically make me feel like I’m at home,” he said.
And according to Lucas, the Florida Gators have been doing just that.
Lucas, a 4-star recruit and the No. 8 offensive guard recruit in the Class of 2019 heading into his junior year at Miami Senior High, said he considered committing to the Gators at Florida’s Friday Night Lights recruiting camp. However, Lucas said at the end of the day he still wants to experience the entire recruiting process before making a decision.
“I had a good feeling about [committing],” Lucas said, “but I’m just going to ride it out. I’ve got to sit down, talk with [offensive line] coach [Brad] Davis a little more. I’m still an underclassman.”
A commitment from Lucas would only further bolster the Gators’ 2019 recruiting class, which is ranked No. 1 by 247Sports in the very early going. Lucas holds offers from 13 schools — six of which are in the SEC.
Lucas said he doesn’t have a set-in-stone top-five schools yet, but Lucas mentioned Florida, Georgia, Miami and Alabama as some of the frontrunners. Lucas said he will likely announce his top schools at the end of his high school season.
Florida will likely be on that list.
“It’s nice here,” Lucas said. “It just feels good.”
