Florida hosts QB target Taisun Phommachanh
The Gators are still searching for their quarterback in the 2019 class, and one of their top targets is Taisun Phommachanh.
The 4-star signal caller from Avon Old Farms (Bridgeport, Conn.) received an offer from Florida on Feb. 20. Fast forward a month and Phommachanh made his way to Gainesville on Tuesday to check out the program.
The Gators held their third practice of the spring and wore pads for the first time. Phommachanh told 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong he was impressed with the intensity of practice and Florida’s College of Journalism and Communications.
This was a key visit for Gators coach Dan Mullen and quarterbacks coach Brian Johnson. They have offered 11 quarterbacks (see Florida’s QB board) in the current recruiting cycle, but Phommachanh is the first to visit to Florida.
The Gators are scheduled to host 3-star quarterbacks David Baldwin (Bradenton, Fla.) and Jalon Jones (Baltimore) for their spring game on April 14. Jones committed to Mullen last year when he was at Mississippi State.
From that group of Baldwin, Jones and Phommachanh, Florida’s quarterback in the 2019 class is likely to emerge. 247Sports top-100 overall recruits Jayden Daniels (San Bernardino, Calif.) and Sam Howell (Monroe, N.C.) are also planning to visit the Gators, but Florida’s chances appear to be better with the three aforementioned quarterbacks.
Phommachanh is ranked the nation’s No. 1 dual-threat quarterback and No. 89 overall prospect by 247Sports. He visited Florida State on Wednesday and hopes to have his decision made by the end of the summer.
Former commit John Dunmore set to visit Gators
Former Gators wide receiver commit John Dunmore will visit Florida this month for the first time since reopening his recruitment on Jan. 22.
The top-150 overall prospect has been in communication with Mullen and wide receivers coach Billy Gonzales. He plans to be in Gainesville next Friday to watch the Gators scrimmage.
“I’ve talked to Coach Gonzales and Coach Mullen a few times,” Dunmore said. “They basically just want to get me up there, feel the different atmosphere with the new coaching staff. I’ll be there the 30th.”
The 6-foot-2, 172-pound Dunmore visited Florida State last month and received an offer from first-year coach Willie Taggart during his trip to Tallahassee. The Seminoles are currently the team to beat in his recruitment.
“Florida State, they’re always going to be up there. That’s my dream school,” Dunmore said. “That’s not only my dream school, that’s my family’s dream school. So for me to have the chance to go there and have my family, that’s a lot.”
Dunmore also visited Miami on Feb. 21 and plans to return Saturday. He will be back in Tallahassee on March 31, so the Gators need to make a strong impression on him when he attends the scrimmage.
Dunmore is ranked the nation’s No. 22 wide receiver and No. 120 overall prospect in the 247Sports composite. He holds more than 30 scholarship offers, including Auburn, Georgia and Ohio State.
“I will be coming out with a top 10 soon,” he said.
Top-100 DE Khris Bogle visiting Florida on Saturday
The Gators will welcome the nation’s No. 5 weakside defensive end to campus this weekend.
Top-100 overall recruit Khris Bogle (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) was scheduled to attend Florida’s junior day on Feb. 24, but could not make the trip. He wasn’t happy about it, either.

Bogle will get another chance on Saturday as he plans to check out Florida’s practice. The 6-4, 207-pound pass rusher from Cardinal Gibbons High School has been talking about the Gators with fellow Fort Lauderdale product and 2018 signee Andrew Chatfield.
“I’ve talked with the new coaches over the phone a couple of times,” said Bogle, who is ranked No. 78 nationally in the 247ports composite. “I talked with Chatfield and he was like, I’ve got to get up there and see if I like it.”
