Former Florida safety Keanu Neal is officially a member of the Atlanta Falcons.
The 17th overall pick in last week’s NFL draft agreed to terms with the Falcons on Wednesday afternoon, the team announced in a press release. Neal is currently the only first-round pick to sign his rookie contract.
The 6-foot-1, 216-pound defensive back ascended up draft boards throughout the process and has been compared to Seattle Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor, whom Falcons head coach Dan Quinn coached as the defensive coordinator in Seattle. However, many pundits viewed the selection as a reach. Neal recorded 96 tackles, two sacks and picked off one pass last season with the Gators.
