GAINESVILLE, Fla. —The SEC has announced an update for the Florida-South Carolina game.
CBS has elected to go with the 6-day option for the Nov. 12 set of games. The kickoff time for the Florida-South Carolina game will be announced after the Nov. 5 set of games.
No. 10 Florida (6-1, 4-1 SEC) ended up losing two home games this season with the postponement of the originally-scheduled Oct. 8 game with LSU. The teams eventually agreed to play the game Nov. 19 in Baton Rouge, La., instead of Gainesville, meaning Florida had to also buyout its home game on that date with FCS foe Presbyterian.
So fans’ final chance to see the Gators at The Swamp will come in two weeks against a familiar face.
Muschamp is in his first season as the head coach at South Carolina. In four seasons at Florida from 2011-14, he went 28-21 while peaking in 2012 (11-2) and quickly bottoming out the following season (4-8).
He has the Gamecocks off to a 4-4 overall record and 2-4 mark in the SEC, highlighted by a 24-21 upset of Tennessee this past Saturday. It was clear Muschamp was taking over a rebuilding job in South Carolina, so it’s too early to evaluate his tenure there.
It will be interesting to see the reaction he gets in The Swamp, though.
As for the all-time series between the teams, Florida leads 25-8-3, though the Gators are just 2-4 since 2010. That was mostly with Steve Spurrier leading the Gamecocks. The Gators rolled to a 24-14 win last year after his retirement.
