Florida takes a dive in the College Football Playoff rankings
After a 25-point loss to Florida State over the weekend, Florida is almost assuredly not going to be one of the final four College Football Playoff teams when the final rankings are revealed next week.
The committee has spoken, and the Gators are ranked No. 18 in this week’s rankings, which is down six spots from last week’s No. 12 ranking.
Because of Florida’s loss and Ole Miss’ dominating win over Mississippi State in the Egg Bowl, the Rebels are now the second-ranked SEC team in the Playoff rankings, coming in at No. 13. If Ole Miss finishes ranked above Florida in the final rankings, the Rebels will play in a New Year’s Six Bowl game and the Gators would likely play in the Citrus Bowl.
Florida has a chance to raise its ranking when it faces No. 2 Alabama in the SEC championship game this Saturday in the Georgia Dome. If you can’t make it to the game, you’ll be able to watch it on CBS at 4 p.m. ET.
