GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida’s staff hit the road Monday for the evaluation period, which included a stop in Cocoa, Fla.
Wide receivers coach Kerry Dixon II visited the state’s No. 1 athlete, Bruce Judson, as his team opened spring football.
“I was the first stop he made, so it meant a lot to me that he came straight down here,” Judson said. “He told my coach that he wants me to come visit a lot during the summer, so that’s where I’ll be.”
The 5-foot-9, 202-pounder makes regular trips to see the Gators and has several connections at Florida. He attended the Orange & Blue Debut earlier this month.
“It was good,” Judson said. “I saw a lot of positives with the offense and how I would fit in. They can do well with the players they have, but they still need help. I think I can get on the field.”
UF coach Jim McElwain thinks the same thing, and he let Judson know it after the spring game.
“Coach Mac came over to talk to me on the field and asked how I liked it,” Judson said. “He told me I should see how much they need me to be there. I like Coach Mac, man. That’s my guy. I love his personality and that he plays to win. He puts the best 11 players on both sides of the ball.”
Judson also has a strong relationship with Dixon, who primarily recruits him and would be his position coach at Florida.
“He doesn’t bug me too much, but every time we see each other that connection is there,” Judson said of Dixon. “We’re just always on the same page. He’s funny and a cool coach, but at the same time he’s going to push you. That’s the kind of guy I want to play for.”
