If the season ended today, Florida’s bowl opponent would be a team its never played before in the history of Gators football.
With the release of the College Football Playoff rankings on Tuesday night, projected New Year’s Six bowls were also released.
Florida would square off against Navy in the Peach Bowl, which would be played in the Georgia Dome — the site of the SEC Championship.
Now I’m sure fans are going to wonder why the Gators would face the Midshipmen in one of the New Year’s Six Bowls. That’s because Navy, with its No. 20 position in the College Football Playoff rankings, would be the highest-ranked conference champion from the Group of 5, which automatically qualifies that team for one of the New Year’s Six bowl games.
Florida wouldn’t have to worry about facing Navy if it continues to win. One would think that if the Gators were to win the SEC Championship, they would be one of the four Playoff teams.
