Every time there’s a successful Hail Mary pass, football fans are quick to remember Doug Flutie. After all, the former Boston College quarterback made one of the greatest football plays of all time when he completed a Hail Mary touchdown on the final play of a win against Miami in 1984.
Florida was the latest team to complete a Flutie-esque moment on Saturday, when Feleipe Franks threw a Hail Mary touchdown to Tyrie Cleveland to cap off a 26-20 win over Tennessee.
After the game, Cleveland was asked about Flutie, as most players who successfully complete a last-second Hail Mary typically are. Only Cleveland’s response may surprise you.
“I haven’t heard of Doug Flutie,” Cleveland said, per Graham Hall of the Gainesville Sun.
Perhaps Cleveland will Google “Doug Flutie” on Saturday night so he can see the original version of what he and Franks just completed themselves.
